About
Everyone across the globe has an equal chance to take part in our festival, from emerging or established filmmakers and artists who explore diverse perspectives on conflict and veterans’ themes to veterans who have served and are now working in the film or screen based media industry. Multicultural and Indigenous entries are very much encouraged. We encourage participation from universities, colleges, film schools, secondary, primary schools and the community at large.
FESTIVAL SUBMISSION CATEGORIES
We want to see submissions that explore, real or imagined perspectives on conflict or warfare and its influence on society; the human experience of our serving and ex serving personnel and their families; include stories about the influences, impact and the complex situations before, during and after the war. But we are always open to discovering something outside of the box, as well.
All films will be accepted and assessed with the view to screening them at a VFF event. Your submission must have been produced during the 24 (twenty four) months preceding the Festival
Your submission with an online link, which may include a password to activate for viewing must be received prior to the specified deadline date. Early submission deadline dates have lower entry fees to late submission deadline dates. We encourage you to submit your film as early as possible to take advantage of lower submission fees.
If your film is not in English then English subtitles are required.
Films submitted to the official competition category, are eligible to compete for the coveted Red Poppy Awards, inspired by the John McCrae poem ‘In Flanders Field’.
